I don't love him. But I do at least have some respect for the fact that he at least tried to stop his father from coming back again. People make dumb mistakes, sometimes being accidental murder. Sure, he may have killed him, but he didn't know it would happen. He didn't know it would kill his brother, but he only did it as a prank. I'm not justifying it, I'm explaining it.
