This ought to inspire a return to sanity. But it won’t, it can’t, because they have to cling on to power and the demonization of Trump. This is what they have instead of a vision for a better world.

My guess is they'll claim his Nazi -like rhetoric and violent push on the left is what caused this. He violent words of patriotism makes people hurt and so some of them will do things as a push back. They've already said this type of shit.
