It depends on the au cause there's other au tropes like arranged marriages, someone introduces them, slow burn with one rlly liking the other but thinking the other doesnt know they exist

Unwilling friends to lovers
Bump into each other, or some outside force makes them meet (animals running off, storm, stuff like that)

Uhh it could go something like they're competing against each other, end up being the last two/they're head to head against each other, edgar wins barely, colette wonders how/is interested in how exactly he did it, and starts pestering him to become friends or help her in some way, he keeps saying no but eventually agrees in hopes she stops bothering him after but they grow to become friends so on so forth, or if they're on the same team colette takes an interest in him after the fight and really wants to become friends, similar to the first idea idk
