Echo is the clone of an older, deceased, Agent that Tartar created in order to fool other Inkfish into trusting them, only to kill them afterwards.
However, something malfunctioned in the cloning process, and Echo was given the memories of the person they were being cloned from.
They knew that the Inkling was killed by Tartar itself, but they had no choice but to play along, until they find a way to get out.
That way, they found it when Mike and Peanut busted out of the Deepsea Metro.
They decided to follow them, and even managed to sneak in on the heli, barely hanging on to their life. A few hours later, they arrived at Inkopolis.
What they saw here made them feel warmth.They found a place to stay, and to do stuff.
They've also been approached by Cuttlefish to be Agent 7, an unknown Agent, a secret one.
An Agent made to spy. Echo was the perfect fit for this.
Easily blending in the crowd, nobody giving attantion to them, they could easily spy on potential targets.
Since then, they've been very useful at their jobs, even managing to get a lot of info on Strike.

For this reason, they have a special type of Agent Comm device, the connects ti their brains and lets the be able to talk through their mind.
