So a few years ago, before I had come out to more than one other person that I was lesbian, I had a friend who everybody called Winks. That’s not his real name, but literally everyone called him Winks. Anyways, Winks was by far my closest male friend for years at that point, and while we never dated or even got close to that, there were definitely rumors about that we were dating. Again, this was before I came out. So one day, Winks and I are walking to the local convenience store together to buy some snacks and slushies when he decides to drop the bomb on me that he thinks he might have a crush on me. Now, Winks is not one of those people to easily form crushes, so this was a BIG thing. Especially when you consider that a) Winks is actually a pretty popular dude that a lot of girls like, b) he has been one of my best friends for years, and c) I WAS A LESBIAN BUT HE DID NOT KNOW THAT YET. So, I did what any good friend would do, and came out to him right then and there. Fortunately, he took it very well and we are still super close friends to this day. Since then he has since gotten a girlfriend and actually was bi-curious for a while before determining that he is in fact straight, but he is also one of the best and most supportive straight ally’s I’ve ever met.
Moral of the story, we need more Winks’s in this world.
