While this is true, it's much harder to use a gun at close range when both have bayonets attached to their guns since the blades are lock AND you are trying to dodge the other's bayonet

nope. it does. you just said shoot them while the blade is in their abdomen. to do that you first need to stab them, then shoot them. now that I think about it there isn't any need to shoot them since you already stabbed them. anyway, pistols are better for closer range combat than bayonet rifles since they are shorter and easier to handle unless you are skilled in spearplay.

i'm pretty sure bayonets are for when you're attacked while reloading/out of ammo.
