If your wondering #1 on that list was Wall-E, pretty much the only thing I agree with on that list.

I’m not even kidding

The writing and dialogue are borderline perfect

yeah but the pacing is god awful

Monsters Inc is literally just Monsters University but better.

The pacing is great. Mike tries to get ahead in school and fails, learns to work as a team, and learns that he and Sully both lack what the other needs to succeed.

Monsters Inc is great but University is nothing like it.

University is a f**king slog in the middle. The scare games plot drives the pacing to a halt and takes forever to get through

it's worth it, the climax is really amazing, but why would I ever watch University when Inc is just much funnier and better paced and has an amazing twist villain and a much better buddy dynamic between Sully and Mike and seriously have i mentioned how much I love Monsters Inc?

They only take time with 2 of the scare games. The first one is to show that Mike can’t just carry the team himself. The second is to show how each member of the team has their own ability. Then they sneak into Monsters Inc to discover there’s no one type of scarer and they’re all useful in their own way, so they learn to work together

After that, it’s a montage.

a montage that just takes up way too long of the relatively short movie.

I'm not saying that MU is bad, like I said the ending is actually spectacular, I'm just saying it's a far cry from the best Pixar movie. I mean, this is a studio that made The Incredibles, Wall-E, Ratatatatat, and Toy Story, and you're really going to tell me that Monsters University is better then these adult oriented, comedic riots, emotional tour-de-forces of films?

The montage is not that long. It’s them outperforming all the teams that get eliminated and setting a routine for themselves.

Idk what you mean by “adult oriented”, but the movie is about college students who are adults. Yes it’s a kids movie but the writing and dialogue are so good that adults can appreciate it too. That’s why Pixar became so popular.

(Responding up here because we ran out of room)

Yes but actually no, while Pixar has never reclaimed the glory they once had in the 2000's, they HAVE managed to maintain glimpses of their full power in movies like Soul and Coco. They're still very much an adult oriented film studio.

And like I said, it's valid to have opinions. I ain't trying to convert you to anti-monsters university. I just like debating over films.

Coco is a great movie, but it started the dumb trend of having a floppy, hyperactive sidekick that’s purely used for comic relief (the dog).
In Incredibles 2 it was Jack Jack.
In Toy Story 4 it was Forky.
In Onward it was the dad.
In Lightyear it was the robot cat.

None of the older Pixar films had this.

And again, what does “adult oriented” have to do with the movies being good? I already said they can be that way and still be bad.

Ik that's why Pixar became popular, but what I mean by "adult oriented" is that the movies I mentioned were literally made for adults. Kids? Kid friendly? Those were all after thoughts in the productions of movies like Incredibles and Wall-E.

In that case, I’d argue the last Pixar movie to be “adult oriented” was Cars 3. After that, every Pixar movie felt weirdly hyperactive with out-of-place jokes.

Even then, a movie can be adult oriented and still be bad (like Cars 3). It’s not about what age the movie appeals to. It’s about the writing, dialogue, pacing, and set-up and payoff. Monsters University knocks it out of the park with the setups and payoffs. It’s also got extremely deep lines and sequences.

Fr.
Also the rest of the movie is kinda inferior compared to the first act.
I always liked ever since i was a young lad that they had barely any dialogue during the beginning and let the visuals and sfx do most of the work.
