I consider there to be three main ones that everything else branches off of
1. Rock
2. Pop
3. Rap

Every other genre fits into one of these categories

Country doesn’t really fit in those
That’s why I consider it the weird one, it just floats and does its own thing. It’s the only genre aside from pop where there are people that exclusively listen to it and don’t have some version of neurodivergence

So imma sound like a nerd rq
Rap ain’t the genre, it’s a style
Hip-hop is the genre
And even then hip-hop branched from jazz which branched from gospel which branched from worship

I just consider those to be the base styles. Everything else fits into there, other than gospel, but that's more about the lyrics
Pop
Rock
Hip hop
Rap (which I identify differently than hip hop, because a lot of eminem songs dont feel hip hopy)
Punk
Breakcore idfk im out

If you identify rap as hip-hop BECAUSE of Eminem then you gotta expand your horizons.
After all, it’s not hip-hop or pop. He found one hella way to fuse it.
