The Red Retrieval Chapter 9: The Contrast

Somewhere back in the base, an injured Byrd limped to a door with a sign on it that said, “DO NOT OPEN, unless you’re the higher-ups”. If any of you fellas remembered that from Chapter 2, then you certainly know that Byrd is finally at his destination. Byrd barged through the door, and fell to the floor as the pain repeated itself. He slowly got back up, and found a light switch, which was at his left. He flipped it up and the whole room soon lit up. There his brother was still strapped to his restraints, knocked out and asleep. As the blue man crawled to his red brother, he broke apart the straps, checked if Dynamo's heart was beating - which it thankfully still was -, and carried him on his shoulders.

"... Everything's gonna be alright, Lord Dynamo. Hang on tight. We'll get you outta this hellhole in no time.", he said to the unconscious Dynamo.

Meanwhile in Corbin's dark dimension, Amber flew around, avoiding every strike that the shadow monster made. She concentrated on getting close to Corbin, who was also attacking her by shooting some projectiles out of his hands. Again, holy light appeared in her hands, and she aimed at the crow man.

"May God forgive you for your sins.", she scarily groused under her breath as the holy light glowed even more, "Because I'm gonna slaughter your face!".

A white beam was then shot at Corbin, who then went into a stance of defense with his swords. The power of the beam was too much for the crow man to control, and therefore exploded in his sight, sending him falling off of the monster. The creature, unaffected by the explosion, squashed his hands together to flatten Amber. Another light exploded in its hands, instantly tearing its hands off from existence. Before it had a chance to howl, its face was completely melted down as it was exposed to more holy light. The entity fell on its knees, dying from the beam. But that was not all.

The angel shot even more angelic beams, which suddenly led to an overkill. Every part that remained of the corpse were burned off from the beams and were reduced to nothing but ashes.

“MINIONS! RISE UP AND MURDERIZE THIS GREY BITCH!”, squawked Corbin once again, pointing at the angel.

Reacting to his call, many shadow monsters of many sizes rose from the ground and jumped to Amber, attempting to pull her down, but were shook off as she spun into the sky. Her spear reappeared in her warm hands, while she closed her eyes and took deep breaths. She opened her eyes, transferred magic into her spear, and hurled it at one of the monsters. It tore through its chest, and exploded with holy light coming out of it. The explosion had caught other monsters - who attempted to evade it but to no avail - and burnt every one of them down.

Smoke rising from the corpses filled and greyed the sky. It was almost as if the place changed into a dying apocalypse. It was devastated by the battlefield it used to be. The only thing that remained was the spear that was unscathed by its blow.

"OI! INKLA!", shouted the crow man from the floor, "Come fight me!".
"I haven't exactly mastered this form yet, but I have to use this to kill her. My defeat will not be tolerated. I must WIN!", he thought.

Again, Amber didn't speak. She landed on the ground, and grabbed hear spear. She spun it quite violently while keeping a calm demeanour, as she stomped towards Corbin, who readied himself to defend. Her face seemed like a potential horror whose power struck fear into the vision of its victims. Her hair was a bit ruined by the damage done by the monster who first attacked her. One part of her top was also slashed. All of this added up to something that would spell the end for Corbin.

"Now!", shrieked Corbin before a large number of knives and daggers were about to impale her.

The girl lived as she all of a sudden dashed with her wings towards her enemy. The speed was too much for him to process. Before he had the chance to ever react, a hole was made in his chest. He looked down to see the blades of the spear digging deep into him. He wanted to fight back, but the pain was to unbearable for him. As the spear went back, Corbin dropped to his knees. He tried to regenerate, but something prevented him...

"Why... can't I... regen?", Corbin asked as his blood crept out of his mouth, "What the f**k is going on?!".

"You had some sort of defence mechanism thingy inside you that probably turned on just before my spear could hit you. I realised that it could only turn on if the user - you - would expect the attack and its type, so I made sure that you wouldn't heal yourself by being more unpredictable than before.", explained Amber, "That goes to show you, that I am always a step ahead of you."
"I... can't... believe... this... I was beaten, outsmarted, and... killed. Heh... Well played... Inkla...", his abrupt, last words were said before he fully dropped dead on the floor.

The form he had returned to his base. The body turned cold as it laid at the feet of the angel. The battle was over... Amber reigned triumphant...

Suddenly, a light glimmered everywhere, making the entire dark dimension disappear like dust. Blinded by the light, Amber covered her eyes. The light stayed and shone for one minute or two. After the light disappeared, Amber reopened her eyes, only to find her somewhere in a facility.

"Amber? Oh my god... You made it!", said a familiar voice.
