In a couple different aspects. In terms of story, I think Botw benefits from the fractured nature of the memories than Totk. In Botw, you are put into a world that is almost empty, a world devastated by Ganon. You are given the cliff notes of what happened, but the memories are the key to your past, and need to be pieced together. The memories are almost never connected to one another, you usually don't need one to understand another. You can complete the story without seeing them and you'd be fine. In Totk, that doesn't really work. The memories are more linear, and you NEED them to understand whats going on. Them being fractured and unneccisary for completion in Totk ultimately makes the game suffers story wise. In terms of story beats, Botw has more complete dungeons (major hot take here). Granted, this depends on the dungeon, but overall, Botw has them more linear. It is hard to bullshit your way through the puzzles in the Divine Beasts. They have a set solution. And while it is fun to figure out your own way to complete something in Totk, the dungeons suffer because it allows you to almost cheat them. I also think Botw nails the atmosphere it was going for better. Botw OOZES atmosphere. The world is empty, ravaged, damaged, and overrun by monsters. Totk, for me atleast, relies on you having played Botw. A lot of it relies on changing something you once knew, so you go different places to see how it change. Its not a bad thing, I just feel it relies a little heavily on that.
