Emily sat at the dinner table, eating alone. She munches on the scrumptious dino nuggets, being careful to not drop any crumbs. She thinks about the three other teenagers she’d met, and how peculiar they were. She frowns. Why was she so caught up on a small encounter? Perhaps it was that nothing else ever really happens to her, or that there was simply something charming about their dynamic that drew her in.
The girl, a cheery but stubborn friend. The larger boy, who seemed laid back, who supported the girl. The smaller boy, the rebel, the ill-tempered one. Emily’s forehead wrinkles harder. There’s nothing even noteworthy about any of them. They were young adults who seemed to be on their own. Such is the fate of many. They just happened to find each other.
Emily racked her brain for answers. She couldn’t get these people out of her head. They were so ordinary. So boring. How come her thoughts persisted? Emily got up. She got into her car, and sped north. She needed answers.
As Emily drove into the parking lot, something seemed.. off. She had this weird sense of dread, as if the lab were going to be filled with monsters the moment she opened the door. Slamming the car door shut, Emily approaches the building. The exterior is not very well maintained. The walls are covered in vines and ivy, the windows were either broken or so caked with dirt that you couldn’t see anything through them.
As she entered, the dark halls seemed to change in some way, as if very dimly lit all around. Moving through as if taking a light stroll, Emily slowly begins to notice very.. suspicious details in her surroundings. Black ooze on the walls, dried blood on the windows, and claw marks everywhere. It’s unnerving.
Emily’s footsteps echo throughout the empty halls. “That’s strange,” she thought. “It’s broad daylight outside. How come nobody’s working?” Now, Emily was faced with two options: Leave now, to the safety of her home, or continue onward, to face the unknown. You know what they say. Curiosity killed the cat, but sweet, sweet satisfaction brought it right back.
