That is because of media engineering. The people need an enemy, and it is easier (and less risky for the ruling class) to use manufactured wedge issues to force people against each other rather than build legitimate national cohesion against foreign enemies.

Self-moderating the community better and collectively calling out some of the batshit insane takes on trans tok and such. Maybe clearing up misconceptions about assimiliationism and shutting down 'internalized transphobia' rhetoric? That would be a good start.
