The points are pretty useful, really. Certain streams have a certain feature toggled to prevent alt spamming and stream ban evasion, those streams of which needing 10,000 points to gain entry. And also, the points grant us the leaderboard and the ability to see some of the best on-site memers. If it weren't for the leaderboard, some folks would have completely forgotten who_am_i and Raydog's names by now. And as Iceu is posting less, our #2 memer on the leaderboard, he may have wound up forgotten as well. It also can give folks joy or a sense of achievement to see their name on the leaderboard. Points let people see how experienced they are as well, and thus points are semi-important to the site, as well as part of Imgflip's trademark in a way.
