Note: I read it about a year ago, so my recollection isn’t the best
To start, I’d like to mention how large the book is: upwards of 1,100 pages. That’s a lot of stuff to talk about. The abridged version, very, VERY, simplified, goes like this. A bio-engineered superflu escapes a lab, and has a 100% mortality rate. It spreads and kills rapidly, leaving only 1% of the population alive, immune to the disease somehow. Two figures show up in people’s dreams: one, an elderly nun who wants humanity to regrow into something beautiful, telling people to go easy (US). The other, Randal Flagg, wants nothing other than to see humanity’s downfall, and has people go west (US). Stuff happens, good vs. evil, yada yada yada.
Overall, it’s a great book. It gets boring at parts, but those parts are few and far apart. It also plays a relatively large part in Stephen King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower. Overall, I give it a 9.3/10
If you have the time, read it.
