Hitting your child only teaches them to be scared of you

I didn’t realize it as a kid but I grew up in a super abusive home. My daddy hit my mama all the time, scared the shit out me and my brother. He didn’t hit me nearly as much as he hit my brother, he beat him with a belt. My daddy left when I was ten, so seven years ago, but then my mama remarried and my step-dad was even worse. He didn’t hit my mama but he hit me and my brother.

my parents never full on hit me but sometimes a sharp slap is all it takes for me to shut the f**k up and I don't mind tbh they're great

What if they don't feel safe in their home because they're in a warzone? How would that be something wrong with the parents?

my parents used to hit me and I'm glad they did because me being scared of them makes me respect them and me respecting them makes me a respectful dude and being a respectful dude makes me a good person
