Saying “assault weapon” bans would stop anything is like banning Toyota Highlander cause if you put a toddler in the front seat someone will get hurt. Sure we don’t need AR-15’s, but if they are in the hands of those who would use them for legal purposes, why the f**k would you ban it? My suggestion would be to prevent the bad people from getting guns, instead of preventing all people from getting certain guns.

Also, not to be that guy, but I’m gonna be that guy. “Assault weapon” is a made up term. The AR-15 is specifically geared towards civilian use, I.e. hunting, target shooting, and legal defensive purposes. The term “assault rifle” better describes a weapon capable of selective fire (burst or fully automatic) which are very difficult to get if you are not a firearms manufacturer or a dedicated collector with a shit ton of permits.

OK, when your children get shot at a school by someone carrying an assault weapon, then come back with "we can't ban assault weapons because it's a slippery slope to banning cars" right wing talking points.

im not worried about people banning cars, im saying banning "assault" weapons will do for gun violence what banning Acuras will do for car accidents. And let's not forget, we tried it once and it didn't make gun violence decrease, why would it help this time?
