This is a great book, comprised of a few short stories. The stories are all connected through characters, timeline, and plot, but the writing style changes with each one. Not only that, but it ties into Kings magnum opus, which is always a plus.
The plot goes as follows: a kid gets a new neighbor, a nice old man. This old man has telepathy, and some of it rubs off on the kid. “Low men in yellow coats” come and take the old man back to the world of the Dark Tower, leaving the kid alone. In the second story, we see somebody in college gambling his life away, talking about the Vietnam war. They play hearts, and the college is like Atlantis to him, thus the title. In the next one, the kids friend from the first story, now a veteran of the war, dies spectacularly in the middle of a road. We later learn that it was a heart attack. The final story is the kid and his childhood crush going to the veterans funeral, and the now-not-kid gets a letter from the old man.
I left out numerous plot points, so you have to read it for yourself. Overall I give this a 9/10.
