Nah, it’s 1 in 64 now in Australia. The rates went up after Federal funding was introduced that was autism specific (for kids aged 2-6). This was done because of the well established research about how effective early intervention is. We now have the National Disability Insurance Scheme for all ages and a big range of disabilities. Perversely, mits now harder to get services and funding for autism and mental health.
A lot depends on screening and testing, as well as services offered. The rates are increasing over time, as an exult of growing awareness.
South Korea has a much higher rate (I don’t know it off hand).
The testing has to be done before services and funding are provided. This leads to kids in middle class households being diagnosed more readily than kids from working class backgrounds.
