The Rise of Resheph - Chapter 1

Dr. Desolation turned over and over in his bed, plagued (ironically) with terrible dreams.
All he could see was a room with a strange metal barrel, with the words "Biohazard: do NOT unfreeze" written on it. As the dream progressed, all the lights in the room went out, sending sparks flying down. The wires attached to the barrel shorted out, and white mist slowly began pouring out. Soon, the white mist turned to green, and the Doctor could hear a deep, ominous laugh emanating from the barrel.
Dr. Desolation woke up with a start. The evil laugh echoed in his skull. Seeing that it was now morning, Dr. Desolation got up out of bed and made himself breakfast. After eating, he put on his mask and went outside onto his mysterious planet hideaway.
As he stood, admiring what little of the sunrise he could see through the noxious purple clouds, he spotted a spaceship land on the planet about ten yards in front of him.
"How now!?" Dr. Desolation shouted. "What be the meaning of this? Who art thou to be trespassing in my haunt?"
The spaceship door opened to reveal... Taya Seaver, the Bladesmith's Apprentice. The Doctor was shocked. He hadn't seen her in months.
"Ain't no time to explain," Taya said to him. "You need to come with me, right now."
Dr. Desolation just stood in shock.
"By right now, I mean RIGHT NOW," Taya groaned in annoyance.
Seeing nothing better to do, Dr. Desolation followed Taya into her spaceship. He sat down in a seat next to her as she piloted them off the planet.
Taya set the ship to autopilot and turned to face Dr. Desolation.
"I hear you got a reputation for hunting evil gods, right?" she asked.
"Well... I helped to trap the Seven Vices into the Amplification Crystal, but -"
"Good," Taya interrupted. "I need your help for something important. Are you familiar with ancient gods of plague?"
Dr. Desolation winced. "All too well, fair lady."
"So you know who Resheph is, correct?"
"Indeed, madam. He was the Egyptian god of disease, adopted from the Syrians. What about him?"
Taya took a deep breath. "He's been unfrozen, and he's very pissed off."

"What dost thou mean, 'unfrozen?'" Dr. Desolation asked.
Taya explained what happened. "Millennia ago, Resheph ravaged the multiverse with the Plague of Decay. It caused anyone who contracted it to slowly rot from the inside out, until they died three days later. A group of warrior doctors trapped Resheph inside a cryogenic freeze tank... but now something has happened to the station he was imprisoned in."
"I take it we are headed there now?" Dr. D presumed aloud.
"Yep," Taya said. "In fact, we're already here."
Dr. Desolation looked out the ship's window. He instantly recognized the planet.
"This is Infernus," he noticed. "This is where the Vices were imprisoned."
"I know that," Taya said. "Infernus Prison is designed for holding dangerous gods, demons, and monsters."
She flew into the hellish atmosphere and landed at the prison's main landing pad. As Dr. D stepped off, he instantly noticed that almost the entire security force was outside the prison, weapons trained at the main doors.
"Stay back!" warned one of the guards, a Mermaid. "He's compromised the entire prison. We locked the doors, but it won't hold him for long."
Just as she said that, a huge dent appeared in the door. Cracks began to appear, with green mist flowing out.
And that's when it exploded.

Green mist obscured the empty doorway completely. From beyond it, a toxic light glowed with a silhouette behind it. The mist slowly dissipated as the figure stepped into the light.
The figure had the head of a gazelle, but with glowing green eyes. He was clad in flowing black robes and carried a golden-tipped spear. He took a long look at the security guards.
"Ten thousand years and THIS is the welcome I receive?" he said in a deep voice.
"That's Resheph alright," Taya whispered to Dr. D.
The security captain aimed her gun at Resheph's face.
"FIRE AT WILL!!!" he yelled.
All the guards discharged their weapons at Resheph. He simply pulled up a veil of his green mist, and it deflected all of the bullets. Resheph then sent the mist cloud outward, and suddenly all the security guards were lying on their backs, coughing and choking violently.
Dr. Desolation stood up and tossed a bottle from his robes at Resheph. It exploded in a burst of red liquid and dissolved the green mist. Resheph recoiled in shock.
"Stupid mortal!" he growled. "You dare to face the god of plague?"
"I am a doctor by trade," Dr. D answered calmly. "Tis my job to do such things."
Resheph grunted and raised his spear. The golden tip began glowing green. He lobbed the spear at Dr. Desolation, but Taya quickly blocked it with her sword, Sobek.
"Nice try," she said.
"I don't have time for this," said Resheph, and he stabbed Taya in the chest with his spear. As she clutched her wound in agony, Resheph disappeared in a swirl of green mist.
Dr. Desolation rushed to her side. He pulled out a bottle of the same red liquid and poured it on her wound. Taya thanked him for the save.
"Come, fair lady," Dr. D told her. "We must make haste if we are to defeat our foe."
