A shell from that gun was found at the murder scene, by Alessandro Berardelli, the payroll guard, with three others from a different gun. Which does not put Sacco himself at the crime scene, nor does it exclude the revolver shell being placed during investigation and then photographed as being "found" on scene. The state police captain who testified was hesitant in offering it as evidence. Two years later he signed an affidavit retracting his trial statement completely.
