Both had lost people dear to them. Natalia knew very well what it meant to lose the loved ones in your life. It was a pain that would never go away but would lessen with time. However, she couldn't fathom the sort of existential pain Kanya had to go through every century as time and again she had to watch friends and lovers die as she lived on. Being a Drakkonid and having an insanely long life wasn't an ideal to strive for. It felt awful being alone and the only one left behind as everyone else went off to some glorious afterlife without you. Natalia understood that pain as she had experienced it recently. It was a shared connection they both could relate to. An unlikely friendship blossomed where there was only antagonism before. At long last, it felt they finally understood one another through their relationships with dead loved ones. They understood both cared deeply for others to the point it ripped their soul in two. It's why Kanya was so reluctant anymore to get close to anyone. It would only end in more pain. It's why she was keeping distance now from making a new friend in Natalia. She didn't want to be standing at her grave some day.
