Chapter 5 May I mention again that sitting at the dinner table was the worst place to be in the Afton family. And of course it always came from Clara. She thought that her family was perfect and would always strike conversation. “So… how was school, Michael?” she said. Michael spit out his milk and turned red. “Um- er it was ok…” he said. “OOH! You're in trouble!!!” said Elizabeth. William flashed her a glare and she looked down at her feet. “How about you, Evan?” said Clara. (Evan proceeded to cry.) He didn't like to be put on the spot. “F-f-fine”. “What did I tell you about stuttering?” William asked. “I-I’ve got to be b-brave?” he replied. The rest of the time at the table, Michael poked at his broccoli, Evan put his head down on the table, and Elizabeth wondered why she had to be the middle child. Soon it was time for them to go to bed. It was William’s turn to put Evan to bed. Like I said at the beginning of the story, Evan has the phobia of sleep. As you can probably tell this was a living hell for William. “Dad, I don’t want to s-sleep.” “How about you just shut your damn mouth and go to sleep.” Said William. “But-”. “THERE IS NOTHING UNDER YOUR BED!” William saw Evans' spirit break. Chapter 6 “Listen, I’m sorry I yelled. But I assure you there is nothing in your room” He said. “O-okay” replied Evan. About 10 minutes later, Clara had been packing up for work. But it wasn’t the usual pack. Usually she’d pack teacher plans, aspirin, pencils, and her work computer. This time she packed clothes, a pillow, multiple snacks, and (not her work phone) her phone. He checked his watch. She was leaving early. “ Clara, where do you think you’re going?”. “Work, of course.” “What are the clothes for?” replied William. “Uhmmmmmmm…” I knew it. It was obvious all along, she had two families. One to which I am not the father.
