You are not supposed to hold rabbits that way. When you go to pick up a rabbit, you'd want to gently scoop them up, supporting their back legs with one arm and their front paws with the other. That way, the rabbit feels the most comfortable and is held more securely. Rabbits are prey animals, and when picked up by their midsection, to them it's as though they're being carried off by a bird of prey, which scares them and makes them want to escape, leading to the holder receiving numerous scratches. It can also hurt rabbits when being held improperly. 🤓
If the rabbit is that person's pet, it appears they did not do their research.
