One faithful and breezy day in February of 2024, someone decided that they had too much memechats. They found out that he couldn’t disable them. He contacted imgflip and said “Hey, can you add it so you can disable memechats? That would be a great feature”. 2 business days later, imgflip employee, Jason, replied “Hello, ic244, we’ve added this feature and will release it at 2:00 PM.”. ic244 was excited. He was so excited, he could run a marathon.
2:00 PM strikes. Every single person on the top 250 sees something weird. Something weirdly unusual. The memechat button is gone. Especially pluck. He posted this on msmg, saying “Bro the memechat button for me is gone LMFAOO 😭🙏🙏”. Then, I_enjoy_star_wars comments, “Omfg same 😭”. Other people think “he jus bullshittin”, but that would change 2 days later.
2 days later, the memechat button is gone. Everyone’s worried. The whole sites in chaos. Imgflip stream turns into msmg. Msmg turns into 4chan. Everyone revolts against Dylan, the owner of imgflip, but all seem to fail. Even sitemods are flabbergasted. Most leave, some don’t. The ones that left now hate Dylan, while the ones that stayed wanted to leave, but they got bribed to stay. Msmg’s calling Dylan 1984, imgflip stream is in a war zone filled to the brim with arguments about if the decision was justified or not, and imgflip in general is taking a toll on popularity.
2 weeks later, imgflip’s popularity is in decline. Over 60% of imgflip’s community has left the site for good. The 40% either still wanna be popular or is accounts that aren’t used anymore. Dylan makes a new rule under harassment section in the tos that “saying how bad the owner of imgflip is, is counted as harassment”. All of imgflip is saying that this is a clear violation of the 1st amendment. Everyone wants Dylan to die and kill himself, but he simply declines.
2 days later, over 80% of the community is gone. Dylan makes the most horrible decision. They remade the layout of everything. Everything looks new and techy now. The worst part, Dylan announced that soon, you have to pay to be on imgflip, and any accounts that didn’t already pay for pro basic or pro would be deleted. The whole community is mad. They call Dylan a hog, money stealer, and other insults, and they all got permanently banned from commenting. Nobody wants to be associated with imgflip anymore.
The day strikes. Everyone’s accounts are deleted, except for pro users, which there was around 10 of them that didn’t left.
