Well, also consider that the alternative to school, say, 100 years ago was working, and now, if there was no school, children assume they could play video games 24/7, it all comes down to which is a more desirable option. Unfortunately some parents actually would let their child play video games 24/7, but some at least might make their child do something relatively productive if there was no school.
