Yes, Adam and Eve could talk to animals and they could talk back. Humans were alot smarter back then, no matter what your socialist-sell-out professor tells you.

Simple answer: Satan would not have been stopped by God since God was the one who put him in the garden. Why? to bring God more Glory than He could have had if Adam and Eve never fell from perfection into sin and death. That is the whole purpose of existence—bringing Glory to God.

More Detailed Answer: The story of Adam and Eve is a story of human nature. They were made in the image of God—meaning they had creative powers and ambitions for glory and dominion.

Following God's "law" in the Garden was just like the Israelites following God's laws later thousands of years later. They would praise God for his Mercy in placing them in the Promised Land (similar to the Garden of Eden) and then, after they become so prosperous, they would then forget God and desire 'more for themselves'.
God knew this would happen (as it happened for Satan and his angels), so he placed the Serpent in the garden to disrupt the apple cart.

This would show Adam and Eve 1) they weren't as smart as they thought, and needed God continually; 2) they would realize what life would be life without Gods favour, and 3) God would get more Glory for then saving them from destroying themselves.

Arguably, the single greatest act of God that brought the most Glory to himself was to raise Jesus from the dead, and yet that would have never happened unless Adam and Eve first fell from grace.

The story of the Garden was also akin to Job's story, where Satan was permitted to go destroy Job's 'perfect life' which then, ultimately, gave Job a greater sense of reverence towards God.

Also, in the story of Job, notice that, even after Satan obliterated his family and fortune, Job BLAMED GOD, not Satan. Satan cannot do a thing without God's permission.

Anyways, for God to destroy Adam and Eve's, Job's, and the Israelites happy lives many times throughout history, it was because they sinned and did not honor God as he deserved and were an example of how the End of Days will be a mighty destruction before being made new again.
