Tbh it was mostly myself. I've been interested since I was about 9 years old, I used my parent's Canon Powershot when I was little. For a while I wasn't interested all that much. I picked up an Olympus C70 at a yard sale last year and then I started getting into it again.

is that a selective color filter? I use it on some of my photos and thought it looked kind of similar.

Sorta,
In photoshop I selected the leaves themselves, I then proceeded to invert it so that the background would be selected instead of the leaves. The last step is just clicking "black and white" where the adjustments are and then it makes everything except the stuff on the inside of the squared off "box" that you've made black and white.
