Okay, so, I'm a digital court reporter, working towards Legal Transcriptionist, and will be entering Stenography. Digital Reporters ARE REAL reporters, they can take the record, HOWEVER, there are reasons that court reporters should learn BOTH ways of taking the record.
In a court of law, hands down, it should be taken by Stenography machine, it's not professional to have wires all over a courtroom, and microphones taped on everyone, or everyone passing a mic around.
Now, with that said, a Digital reporter would be ideal for a small conference room, or an attorney's office. It's less intimidated than someone sitting there punching keys to record the spoken word.
