Yes, I left out the h.
I have worked with a couple of actual psychopaths, trying to treat the untreatable. The genesis of psychopathy is genetic, but not all genetically-inclined-to-be-psychopaths actually emerge as psychopaths. It’s a combination of genetics, (almost always) frontal lobe damage in childhood, and extremely dysfunctional and abusive early-life-to adolescent experiences.
Actual psychopaths are extremely rare. A lot of things need to go wrong, not just genetically. I know that some others I worked with were very likely to emerge as psychopaths, but had not progressed that far. For incarcerated youth, psychosocial development is delayed by as long as their periods of incarceration when that period exceeds about 8 months.
