Another very big reason for Russia to attack was to de-Nazify Ukraine. You probably don't believe that Ukraine is fascist, but let me show you some evidence that says otherwise.

First off, Ukraine has secret police to this day. Who else had secret police? The Third Reich. The Ukrainian Gestapo arrest all who do not fit their interest, and have even done massacres in the past (especially towards Russians). There was this one American blogger who lived in Ukraine, and he realized that Ukraine was wrong. He started posting things about how Russia is, in fact, winning, and that Ukraine is flooded with propaganda. He was arrested within a week from then.

Ukraine also has a radical group called the Banderites. Its roots lie in the OUN-B, which was a Ukrainian nationalist organization that was started in 1929, when Ukraine was still part of Russia. When the Nazis invaded the USSR in 1941, they declared independence and settled in Nazi-occupied territory. They were close collaborators with the Nazis, and even attacked the Russians from time to time. Today, they are an extremist group that is hell-bent on exterminating everyone from Ukraine who they do not approve of. They have conducted massacres of Russians, Poles, Hungarians, Romanians, and much more.

The Banderites also have this thing called the Myrotvorets hit-list. It has sensitive information on very many people who are considered 'enemies of Ukraine'. Eventually, the people on the hit-list get murdered. This list even has children on it.

Ukraine also has the 'Svoboda', or 'Freedom' political party in its government. It is Neo-Nazi and has extremist ultra-nationalist views.

Ukraine also has the Azov Battalion. It is a Neo-Nazi battalion that still uses swastikas and the Waffen SS symbols. It was originally stationed in Mariupol, next to the Azov Sea. However, they have been elsewhere since Russia captured the city.

And after the invasion, several Ukrainians started protesting Zelensky's regime. Where are they now? They all disappeared, arrested and captured by police and soldiers.

I’m more neutral on Putin. As for the civilian part, Ukraine was killing its own civilians in Donbas 8 years before Russia became involved

Ukraine could’ve stopped the war before it ever happened. But Zelensky was a NATO puppet, and they didn’t let him even think about peace

Also that doesn’t change the fact that the Russians massacred the Ukrainian people when pushing into Ukraine, and yet in Ukraines counter offensive there being a lot more civil and minimizing civilian casualties

Doesn’t change the fact that Ukraine was doing the exact same thing long before Russia

I see you are mistaken here. Contrary to Western media which says that Russia invaded for no reason, there are actually several reasons why the Special Military Operation was started. Let me provide you with knowledge about the events that lead to this, which are only a small amount of Russia's reasons. Enjoy reading this :)

In 2014, Crimea became its own country separate from Ukraine, but the citizens, who were mostly ethnic Russians, overwhelmingly voted to join Russia. And so Russia annexed Crimea and Sevastopol.

Immediately following that, Ukraine launched several anti-Russian campaigns in its country. With the help of their arms forces and secret police (which function basically as the Gestapo), they started violence against the ethnic Russians of Ukraine. They massacred 30 or so of them in Odessa, and then attacked Donetsk and Luhansk, the regions making up Donbass. As a result, the Ukrainian Civil War started. The Ukrainian secret police also committed atrocities in other areas.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces came to Donbass with hopes of neutralizing the territory and 'cleansing' it. They attacked civilian cities, and even shot children and their mothers. There is even a Donetsk war song about it which says:

"Like in '41, demons came from the west,
Already standing at all doors,
Shooting wives, mothers,
Burning people alive."

These things actually happened, they are not propaganda. They are facts.

Since the soldiers and civilians of Donbass were close to Russia both geographically and relation-wise, they asked for help. Since 2014 up to February 2022, Russia sent weapons and supplies to Donbass, and also aid for civilians affected by the conflict. NATO and the rest of the West severely opposed Russia sending them weapons, which was very hypocritical as NATO is now sending weapons to Ukraine.

Eventually, Donetsk and Luhansk declared independence from Ukraine. However, a few days later they decided to join Russia instead, and the population overwhelmingly approved. Russia annexed those oblasts, making them Russian territory. And because they were still at war with Ukraine, they requested Russia's help. So Russia started the SMO.

To Russia, this conflict is not a war or invasion but simply a Special Military Operation. They are using only a small percentage of their resources, and yet still are winning.
