I make mine every year because

1: customisability
2: there isn't spirit Halloween in Britain and I ain't being sh*t from the supermarket

I still have a inflatable dinosaur costume that I bought a few years ago

I have neighbours who always go all out for Halloween

One year they made a killer clown mannequin guarding the candy, another year they turned their living room into a giant spiders nest, with the candy among the eggs

Here in Britain we usually dress up as something spooky, because Halloween originated as a pagan festival that involved scary costumes to scare away evil sprirts. The custom stayed even after Britain became Christian.

Actually, it's a mix of all of them

For 1: When I was 7, me and my aunt made a pirate costume
For 2:I usually buy my costume for halloween tho. This year, I'm going as Zelda (We're buying it btw)
For 3: last year I went as Agent 8. We bought a wig and then hot glued the suction cups on, then we got a leather jacket, a leather skirt, and some boots (i think they were leather, idk)

I make mine every year, my magnum opus was when I went trick or treating in 2020 in my neighbourhood and I made a gigantic cardboard monster looming over me and biting into my skull that was big, but light enough to be held on by a backpack.

Creative limitations are often a good thing, it means we have to improvise and make much more creative costumes ourselves.

It's the same reason why botw and totk combat is so fun, it limits your resources and your weapons break so you have to improvise and try something new
