It would be easier to understand if you play on Legendary with some skulls on, so you go through the mission slower and see little ways they could open up some doors and debris. Reading the first few chapters of Halo first strike would help you get a really good idea too. They could add more character interactions, combat dialog, have the marines ask chief some questions, fight some bosses, have some enemies attack you from behind so you have to fall back, or you could start off with a dirty visor and you have to clean it off in the waterfall. It's like building a house. Hard to explain, but you need to be able to visualize it. All I can really say is, play the mission on Legendary with some tough skulls and read Halo First Strike up to about chapter 5. The point where Blue team is walking through battle casualties on Reach and they get skeptical about some Marine squads (to say the least) It's like if Rockstar games asked me how they could improve Red dead redemption. I would just tell them to sit down and play the Far cry series, and they'll see it all fit together the way everyone else does.
