I understand, in Sonic 2 the bossfight has a bottomless pit and the platforms that drop you into it, and in mania, you have this intense platforming section with moving platforms that can crush you and it has rising water, so you can drown.

Agreed, I always lose to the bottomless pit and not the boss

By let me tell you that in both games, this is the second zone. There are things much harder than this
