You crouched through the bushes, following a strange, alien person. She was unaware of you. For now, at least. After spying from a distance for a while, you advanced closer. Stepping on a stick, you startled the extraterrestrial, making her run away.
"Damnit," you muttered.
If she returns, you might be able to study that species closer. You could try another day.
