I haven't played the game in forever, so correct me if I'm wrong. Light people are the shiny little souls that upgrade how high you can fly, and dark people are the souls with the dark gunk on them and you need stuff to help then (you also get new emotes and voices from them.) I remember them from the (final?) boss-

Also those little shits in the Wasteland scared the shit out of me when I first saw them (or when they first saw ME-)
