The “male and female” is considered a status among clownfish, not actually changing any aspect, they label themselves as male because that’s how all clownfish start on the status quo, but eventually, they work themselves up to the “female” status quo, they basically just use that type of stuff to label themselves on the hierarchy, like kings and peasants sort of.
