has anyone noticed that at both the spamton NEO and jevil boss fights, it says the air crackles with freedom? Perhaps because we were not supposed to go there.

I think it's Ralsei

I have suspected Ralsei also, but think about it. Kris is clearly having a problem, they tear out their own soul and lose control of their body, along with that it seems that only Lightners can open or close the fountains. Also if Ralsei was the knight, why would he help close the fountains.

If Kris was the Knight, why would they seal the Fountains?

I think Kris tears out their soul because of their desperate yearning for the freedom they clearly don't have while we control them.

I think Ralsei is too kind, he's nice to the point where it's downright suspicious. He ignores extremely important things, and is obviously hiding something. I think he either isn't the prince from the legend, or he downright made up the legend.

I think that maybe it's not Kris themself, but something controlling them, also I really do see the points you're making, I hope Ralsei isn't the knight because he's one of my favorite characters

I think it's kinda obvious that we are controlling Kris
Kris is desperately trying to reach freedom, it's a bit far fetched, but you notice how the secret bosses so far have all had to do with the concept of "freedom", I think that has something to do with Kris trying to escape our grasp on them.

As a matter of fact he may be a possibly victim of some kind of mini roaring event, which may be the reason he has no family

And he's hiding it.
He ignores lots of important things.
He has a giant locked door in his palace, he refuses to say much about Spamton NEO, and he seems to know something about the Thorn Ring, because when you try to put it on him, he is silent. Even if he's not the Knight, he has a disturbing secret of some kind. Doesn't it also seem strange that nobody knows about the Roaring, and Legend, besides people inside his dark world? I think he either made it up, or that he's not actually the prince in the legend. He's really sweet, but to me he seems a bit TOO sweet.

Pretty sure ralsei is asriel after all ralsei is just asriel mixed up

Maybe there COULD be a dark world in his college, but ralsei acts too young I would say, as college students are young adults, but he is (or at least acts like) a little kid

Building on to that last bit, we know that Ralsei was able to access the Cyber World even though there's no obvious connection between Castle Town and there, and Darkners turn into everyday objects if they go to the Light World.

We also have the PuppetStrings that we receive from defeating NEO with violence or on a Snowgrave Route. They don't hold as much meaning from the former, but it's strange how at that point we would have some symbolism of control over 3 of the 4 party members at the end of Snowgrave.
Either way, we have five more chapters to make more connections with.

ralsei is i think not even real because ralsei death sprite is just clothing and ralsei letters scarmabled is asriel so ralsei might be an illusion because kris is waiting for asriel to comeback and also toriel said that asriel was coming next week and there are 7 days in a week and 7 chapters in deltarune.
