This year will mark a milestone for MLS. Besides expansion sides Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA, original club Dallas Burn has been renamed FC Dallas. Purists will finally take notice of the league in their own backyard. By purists you mean Euro-posers? I like the new direction we’re taking. I’ll be the first to admit that we have some pretty cheesy nicknames like “Burn” and “MetroStars” and “Kansas City Wizards.” But must we name future expansion teams after famous foreign clubs? Or forgo formal nicknames in favor of “FC” or “City” or “United,” just because it’s the norm overseas? I’LL INFORM MR. GARBER OF YOUR CONCERNS! Sir, I predict a future where D.C. United isn’t the only “United” in our league.
