So, basically, the CS works a lot like some sort of evil amoeba. All we know is that the substance separates the soul and the body, the soul becomes a ghost, while body becomes a walking corpse with knowledge of almost everything. The soul removal process is also excruciatingly painful. The body’s scars, wounds, and stuff like that get amplified to the max- holes start to farm, blood starts shooting out, etc. In Phantom’s case, the small pockets underneath his eyes that produce the radiation that both keeps his mask on and gives him an extremely stupid backstory.
