The story of Jesus Christ's birth, crucifixion, and resurrection is a central theme in Christianity. According to the New Testament of the Bible, Jesus was the Son of God and was born to a virgin woman named Mary who was betrothed to a man named Joseph. After his birth, a group of wise men from the East followed a star to where Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and they brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When Jesus grew older, he preached the word of God, performed miracles, and gathered followers. After some time, Jesus was captured, tried and sentenced to death by crucifixion by the Romans. Jesus was crucified alongside two thieves. The next day, God resurrected Jesus from the dead, and he appeared to his followers for forty days before rising to heaven.
