well there's like a lot of lore so
basically a bunch of kids with special talents (Ultimate Detective, Ultimate Pianist, etc) and they're all put in a killing game
one person gets killed, they look for clues and find the killer through a class trial
if the killer is found, they get executed (usually in a violent way)
if the killer isn't found, everyone BUT the killer dies, and the killer goes free, back into the world
and then there's a bunch of other stuff but that's basically it
