The movie begins with two witches named Matalmaya and Evergreen knocking on the door of Matalmaya’s one year younger brother: a wizard named Gargamel. Gargamel, Matalmaya, and Evergreen live in an isolated enchanted forest, the same one that Smurf Village is located in, as all of their parents wanted to get away from oppression. Matalmaya and Evergreen tell Gargamel they are going to gather supplies and some are in dangerous places, and they have a distress signal that Gargamel will get in case they need help. One place they are arriving to is Smurf Village. Smurfs, the inhabitants, are evil small blue creatures who lock up certain groups of people. Matalmaya and Evergreen walk towards the village ready to fight, but the Smurfs end up capturing the two and locking them in a large, cavernous underground room. They manage to send the distress signal though. Gargamel gets it, and sets off with his pet cat Azrael to save them. He narrowly manages to save the two and escape. The next day, he and Azrael arrive at Smurf Village to confront the Smurfs. After getting into an argument with Papa Smurf, with Gargamel saying the Smurfs can’t treat people the way they do, Gargamel and Azrael begin fighting the Smurfs. The next day, Gargamel realizes the Smurfs followed him home, and they start attacking his house. Gargamel and Azrael start fighting them with the aid of Matalmaya and Evergreen. After that, Gargamel became archenemies with the Smurfs, and Gargamel realizes that the Smurfs have terrible plans all the time. Gargamel once tried to fight fire with fire by making a good Smurf-like creature he called Shira. But the Smurfs captured her and turned her into Smurfette.
