You can check if you have updated by going into System Settings and checking the system version on the top screen. If it says 11.16.0-49 or lower, you're good. If it says 11.17.0-50 or higher, you might be in a tough spot, depending on the model of your 3DS. The letter indicates the region of your 3DS (Example: U indicates an American 3DS).
