Actually the 2nd iteration of the autobot symbol was based on the original toy for prowl. And the 2nd integration of the decepticon symbol was based on a soundwave toy

But yea, I do think tfp did that intentionally

I mean soundwave is based off the con symbol, well the con symbol is based off soundwave. And I guess hasbro just liked including transformers faces to look like the insignia. But the autobot symbol was originally based off the g1 prowl toy, as was the decepticon symbol with g1 soundwave
