The first alien weapon species in science fiction

I say this because (to my knoweldge at least) they are the first alien species that are actual living weapons.

Not a sentient gun who is also a robot, or the terminator style robot who was built as a weapon, but LIVING weapons.

Whereas most scifi writers take from earthly animals, humans, and other sources as such to make their aliens; justin roiland took from guns (and a survival knife).
