The Denver Nuggets were one of four ABA teams who joined the NBA in 1976. They used to be called the Denver Rockets (purple and yellow jerseys) before being renamed Nuggets in ’74. Denver’s club was renamed in advance of joining the NBA, which already had the Houston Rockets (red and yellow). The San Diego Rockets (green and yellow), a 1967 NBA expansion team, moved to Houston in ’71.
