I recently was thinking about this line! the "made in his image" part...
It is clear that there is other life in the universe besides on earth, space is simply too big for that to be impossible.
And it is unlikely (not impossible, but unlikely) that the other worlds would have humanoid creatures (I mean, look at the variety on our own world)
So what if "Made in his image" doesn't mean "we look like him" but means "this was the image he had in his mind"
like an artist, visualizing what their creation will look like!
Additionally, ancient humans were a lot more simple than us, and it may have just been easier to relate to a god that is just like us.
with their limited understanding of things, this could have been a way to make sure everything made sense.
This is in no way doctrine, but I thought it was an interesting theory. I like to look objectively at the verses and think of it as an old text that needs to be interpreted into modern language.
