the increase in score, but not showing the sign of the note being pressed is a common bug. Also you can customize your notes, like having rings instead of arrows, it's cosmetic.
No like he had ice cream as his notes (with rainbow trails for when he had to hold the notes) and he had pictures of a random anime character yelling for when he hit the notes
