Concept about Hunger Games x Wings of Fire

TLDR:
Queen Kilonova is the “ruler” of the dragon species who are intelligent enough to construct ships capable of space travel. Whatever dragon is the current queen also gains the ability to revive the deceased. The tribe however is really governed by the Parliament who are DEFINITELY NOT abusing their power. Now, the Hunger Games aspect comes in. The Queen would choose a large group of dragons to participate in said games. The goal of the games is to weed out the ‘weak’ dragons to make room for higher quality soldiers. Said infantrymen are then sent down to the next planet the Queen chooses to invade, and DEFINITELY NOT Parliament abusing their power.

Yeah pretty much.

Was it ok?

The dragons space travel idea is A LITTLE out there, but other than that, I like the idea.

The original concept for Kilonova’s species gets worse:

They don’t have many ships because they don’t need them for anything other than to transport prisoners. Meant to be technologically advanced but they still don’t have amazing long ranged weaponry you would expect from space going life forms, no do they have armor. Instead what they have is double the ego of Nightwings and Icewings due to propaganda.

Now Kilonova’s species does have the ability to survive in space for a long time, but they eventually need food. They’ve been trying to grow food but they can’t keep up, leading to the situation that they need to invade the planet.

I’ve got stuff I need to work on with this story and Kilonova’s species, but I’ll eventually find something that’s not completely unreasonable (like building more ships I just mentioned.). There was even a concept where Comet would have language barrier problems inside the ring while trying to work with another dragon.

The games concept was wacky too. 30 teams of 2 dragons compete in two separate arenas. There is a grace period of 30 minutes after the games begin. The survivors are put into another arena, this time two teams are paired together randomly. Teammates are always allowed to disband or kill each other. The bloodbath doesn’t happen until one day in, that’s when the goods appear at the starting point.

It’s all just a huge mess right now, I’m nowhere near close enough to writing an actual story. Feel free to give advice and ideas, I’ve never written a full on AU story before.

So uh.. should I continue trying to work it out?

Yeah, I do like the concept. Keep at it!

Should I change anything?

In my opinion, you should give a bit more information about the Queens / Royal Families ability to revive the dead.

I really should. I was thinking about letting them also have the ability to convert any dragon into the “Starbound” tribe, granted the dragon was willing to join their cause or willing to change to that tribe. That seems a bit far though, even if it isn’t used often. I was thinking of having Queen Kilonova change Comet into a half Starbound sometime after the end of the final game.. he would lose the icewing part of himself if he agreed. The Starbound would see it as a great honor.

Queen Kilonova was looking out over at the blue a green planet below from the biosphere garden. That’s where they were going to invade, or where the parliament decided anyway. They’ve reduced the Queen’s powers to mere ceremonial duties, so she couldn’t prevent anything that was to come, only sit and watch. She proposed motions to settle for peace and aid before war but those fell through spectacularly. Those who supported her were removed from the senate, and she was forced to go along with anything the parliament said. She was hardly a queen at all, only in name. Her only duty at this point was to announce the dragons participating in the dreaded games. The top teams would be trained to be elite soldiers for the coming war, prisoners sent back to the surface under heavy anesthetics to forget her tribe’s existence. The losers however, would remain dead. Those who had been killed and had done decent would be revived, she guessed it was the only reason parliament kept the queen around. Kilonova and the dragons she succeeded had been able to revive other members of her tribe, no one else could do it. At least not yet.

One of the guards entered the room, interrupting her thoughts.

“Someone’s here to talk with you Queen Kilonova.”

“Let’s not keep them waiting.”

She turns around to find that it’s Comet, her expression soften’s a little. Comet was one of the dragons from the surface of the planet in which their three moons orbited. He was taken from his home when he was very young. Kilonova would probably bet he didn’t remember his original name if he had one.

“Give us a moment alone. No one is to enter unless it is urgent or an emergency.”

The guard nodded and left.

“This is a pleasant surprise, you know you don’t need permission to walk about the palace to find me.”

“It’s only fair to the other dragons.” He walked up next to her to stare at the blue and green marble suspended above the moon. “What’s on your mind? Your brain is just firing off worries left and right.”

“I’m worried about this years games.. I’m merely only here just to announce who’s been chosen and to resurrect the worthy. Those warmongers think the games help us control the rest of the population.. I think it only brings psychological damage and a reason for revolution.” No matter what she had to say, she knew Comet would be there for her. He always was. He listened to her and tried to offer solutions, much like an advisor. The poor dragonet.. always taking heat from everyone else because they think he’s inferior.

“That’s not all, you’ve told me this before. There’s something else.”

“I’ve taken your name out of the games. You’re too valuable to lose. More importantly, you’re one of my only friends and allies who isn’t a guard.”

“What?”

“You head me correctly. I know you did.”

“Yeah alright, but that isn’t fair to the other dragons.”

“Somehow I suspect you’ll get re-added to the list of chosen dragons anyways, whether I used my pardon for you or not. One of my last powers that hasn’t been taken.”

The two looked at the continents below for a while. Soon blood will flow through it in rivers as the Starbound army would cut through the civilizations to make its own territory. She tried asking parliament to pursue options of peace multiple times, all of which were recorded and sent to the homes of her tribe. [I bet the reason they want war, is power for themselves.]
There wasn’t anything she could do about it, otherwise should just lose what little chance she had left of stopping this madness.

“There’s something very wrong about this war that parliament wants.. I can’t figure out what it is. I’m worried about my tribe and the tribes below on the planet.”
