The Basic Conditions of Employment Act is the main law controlling employment in South Africa. It sets out the minimum rights of employees and employers in connection to key aspects of the employment relationship such as conditions of employment, leave and termination of employment. The purpose of Basic Conditions of Employment Act is to give effect to the constitutional right to fair labour practices, to impose minimum conditions on a contract of employment and so on.
